The original village of Tribunj was located on a small island, only a few meters away from the mainland. The beautiful traditional architecture of the village has been preserved until today thanks to its inhabitants.
The hill St Nicolas, on which the medieval fortress “Jurjevgrad” was built in 1650, is located near the old town centre. It was first mentioned in 1463 when it was called Tribahunj.
Remnants of the defensive wall and the very hardened door which were built during the Venetian rule are still visible. After the establishment of the Bishopric of Sibenik the town was named Jurjevgrad.
TRIBUNJ is today a very popular tourist destination especially distinctive and unique in its cultural heritage, gastronomy and special geographical position with highly indented coastline.
